What is ART?

Active Release Techniques (ART) is a highly specialized treatment method designed to address issues related to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Here's what you can generally expect during an ART treatmen

1. Assessment: The session typically begins with a thorough assessment by the provider. This involves discussing your medical history, symptoms, and any specific areas of discomfort or pain. The provider may also observe your movements and posture to identify dysfunctional patterns.

2. Palpation: The ART practitioner uses their hands to palpate, or feel, the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments. This helps them identify areas of scar tissue or adhesions that could be causing dysfunction.

3. Treatment: Once problem areas are identified, the provider uses precise, hands-on techniques to manipulate the soft tissues. This involves applying tension to the affected area while instructing you to move through a specific range of motion. The combination of tension and movement helps break up scar tissue, restore mobility, and reduce pain.

4. Feedback: Throughout the treatment, communication between you and the provider is crucial. You’ll be asked to provide feedback on the pressure applied and the sensations you’re experiencing. This feedback helps the practitioner adjust the treatment to ensure it’s effective and comfortable.

5. Progress Monitoring: ART is often a progressive treatment, meaning that improvements are monitored over multiple sessions. The practitioner will track your progress, adjust techniques as needed, and discuss any changes in symptoms or function.

6. Home Care: After treatment, the provider may offer advice on stretches, exercises, or other self-care techniques to support recovery and prevent future issues.
